Lymphatic Drainage
About lymphatic drainage
What is Lymphatic Drainage?
Though more recently popularised as a sort of cure-all health service and somewhat glorified on social media, lymphatic drainage is a specialised treatment requiring significant training that, when conducted properly, can yield excellent health benefits.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage (also called manual lymphatic drainage) is a gentle but very specific type of massage that improves the transport of fluid and waste in the body through the lymphatic system.
How it works
The lymphatic system drains excess fluid and waste products from the tissues, deals with inflammation and infection, and transports fats and proteins around the body. A lymphatic drainage therapist uses light and rhythmic hand movements on the skin, stimulating lymph nodes and the numerous lymphatic channels.
Lymphatic drainage is often recommended by doctors for pre and post-surgery to help alleviate swelling, pain, scar treatment, and overall to enhance surgical recovery.
I am specifically trained in lymphatic drainage treatment, including as a qualified specialist in lymphoedema therapy.
Specific treatments
Cellulite therapy
My custom-designed cellulite therapy involves a mix of specific cellulite massage techniques with my own special blend of cellulite oil, manual lymphatic drainage massage, skin brushing, and compression therapy. This treatment is deeply relaxing and non-invasive.
Gut health and IBS therapy
This 60-minute session focuses on improving your gut health and assisting the body in removing natural toxic waste that may have built up in the lymphatic system. For acute symptom relief it is generally recommended to have 4-6 sessions within a month. Follow-ups fortnightly or monthly can be effective for ongoing symptom management. Each body responds differently to the treatment and ongoing advice will be provided.
Preventing and managing lymphoedema
Lymphoedema therapy is for anyone who requires preventative lymphoedema treatment/advice or ongoing management of lymphoedema. If you have complex needs, we encourage you to contact us before your session so that Elizabeth can prepare a treatment plan.
Compression therapy (LX9-LF900 Compression Pump)
Sequential Intermittent Pneumatic Compression (SIPC) therapy is the process of applying external pressure to the limbs to promote the circulation of blood and lymphatic fluid from the extremities of the body. The device works using pneumatic compression in a variety of garments – arm, leg or abdomen and groin. It is particularly useful in managing symptoms of lymphoedema, lipoedema, chronic venous insufficiency, venous ulcers and pre-and post orthopaedic surgical swelling.
Post-liposuction / post-op therapy
After liposuction or surgery, an individually tailored post-op lymphatic treatment may help to significantly reduce your recovery time, including swelling, pain, inflammation, possible scarring or other side effects. It also ensures a better result for your surgery. For liposuction, I also recommend you purchase our dry body brush and cellulite oil to use at home between treatments at the clinic. Please only schedule this appointment for when your drains have been removed (if any).
Lymphatic drainage treatment may also assist the following:
Certain chronic conditions, enhancing circulation, general wellbeing, immune support, relaxation and stress relief, and reducing swelling (oedema).
